Painted Mason Jars #DIY

I love mason jars. They are so versatile and can be dressed up or made to look shabby chic. You can even cook in them! Not to mention canning.

Pinterest has so many photos of painted mason jars so I finally got on the bandwagon and made my own. I decided I wanted to make some for my bathroom.

Off I went to Michael’s to get just the right colors. Turquoise, Gray, and ….. Turquoise. Yes, I bought the same color in different brands. But they were just a touch different so it worked for me. I also used Ocean Seabreeze to mix it up a little so the colors weren’t too close and matched more of my bathroom decor.

First I cleaned the jars in warm water and then wiped them with an alcohol wipe. I then poured some paint onto a paper plate and started painting the outside of the jar with a foam brush. I waited a couple of hours and then put on another coat.

The next day I took a small piece of sandpaper (a nail file would work great) and scraped off the lettering and some of the paint to give it a distressed look.

The last step was to put a clear coat of varnish on the jar to give it some sheen. Voila. Then just add whatever you want to fill it with.
