The story of my life in 250 words or less

* Note: I’m participating in a blogger challenge to blog every day during the month of May. Here we go…

Day 1: Story of My Life

I should state up front that I lie about my age so I’m not sure how far I should go with my life story. Lets just start from the beginning.

I’m the youngest of three children to a wonderful set of loving parents. I have never doubted for one moment that I was loved by my family. I’ve even convinced myself that I’m the favorite of every aunt and uncle I have.

We used to live in a small, small town but moved to the big city of 7,500 people when I was little. It’s grown considerably since then.

When I was eight years old I lost my brother in a drowning accident. I still haven’t come to grips with that because just thinking of him brings me to my knees. {More on that as the month goes on}

I played the flute in band and even had the opportunity to go to New Orleans to play in a Mardi Gras parade because of it.

After graduation I was set to go to Texas Tech University but got waylaid by politics. I worked at the state Capitol and in Washington, DC for one of the best statesmen I’ve ever known. After that I went on to work in political campaigns. This all led me to such a different life than I thought I would lead.

At one point I thought I wanted to be a Wall Street broker, a mechanical engineer, a sports agent, or an interior decorator. But then I realized I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I went to DC thinking I would help end homelessness and drug trafficking. When that didn’t happen I tried to elect those who could help do just that. Now I’m trying to tackle societal issues by working in the nonprofit sector.

When I’m not doing that, I’m spending time with my triplet niece and nephews, reading, baking or just hanging out. Hopefully there is still a lot left of this story to tell.

Way more than 250 words….
